SQL Queries taking forever in virtual machine running SQL Server 2005?

We are running complex queries to a VM running SQL 2005, which in production would usually take 20 minutes, but in this environment it takes around 2 hours. Anybody know of anything I could look for as to why this is having major delay and extremely slow processing time? Thank you!
