Road from Thala Boravit to Rovieng in Cambodia?

In January 2008. Wanting to go from Stung Treng to Siem Riep via either Preah Khan/Ta Seng Village or Sambor Prei Kuk/NH6. Do not want to go via Tbeng Meanchey. Is this possible and how is the best way - will taxis do it from Stung Treng? Are there still bandits around Ta Seng forest?
